Yes you didn’t read it wrongly. Fats can be good for you! Essential fatty acids aka linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid, are good fats that can’t be produced by our body. It needs to be acquired from diet such as Sacha Inchi oil, sunflower oil and oily fish like tuna and salmon. Fat is also rich is vitamins A,D,E and K. Total calorie intake is the main culprit in weight gain including excessive carbohydrate and protein, not necessary fat! Saturated fat and trans fat though are definitely the ones we should limit as these can lead to heart attacks.

Interestingly, there’s a randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled study done on Sacha Inchi Oil consumption. This is a type of high quality study in which people compare using different plant based oils with a dummy looking at the effects under controlled environment. The great news is both sacha inchi oil and sunflower oil were beneficial in lowering bad LDL cholesterol. Good HDL cholesterol increment was only observed in Sacha Inchi oil. There was no kidney or liver damage seen during the study period. Nor significant side effect besides mild nausea which resolved with time.

I personally dislike consuming oil on its own but find using Sacha Inchi oil in salad dressing gives a pleasant nutty taste. Below is one of my favourite salad recipe.
Chicken Slice salad with Sacha Inchi Oil vinaigrette
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/3 cup sacha inchi oil
4 cloves garlic roasted and minced
2 TBSP thyme fresh
Himalayan pink salt to taste
Black peppercorns ground, to taste
1 hard boiled egg quartered
2 Roman lettuce coarsely chopped
6 Cherry tomatoes halved
1 Grilled chicken breast - sliced
Basically toss everything and a nutritious yet filling lunch is done!
